Basic Information
and Documents
Our project is recognized as a
Village
Project by the International Federation of Medical Students Association
- USA.
The Uganda Village Project
was created in an effort to improve the living conditions of the
people of the Iganga District in Uganda through a sustainable public
health and education partnership with Ugandan students,
professionals, and charitable organizations.
UVP is a student-led
organization which sends a volunteer team of students and
professionals to Iganga, Uganda every year for 6 weeks in
June/July. UVP will also maintain a constant volunteer presence in
Iganga by sending 6 month and 12 month volunteers in addition to the
regular June/July program.
The Village Concept Model
The Uganda Village Project
was created in February of 2003 as an initiative of the
International Federation of Medical Students Associations—USA, a
501©3 non-profit organization. The IFMSA “Village Concept Project”
model was designed in collaboration with the World Health
Organization in 1986, whereby medical students and professionals
essentially “adopt” a village in a developing country and work to
assist this community over time. IFMSA-USA has successfully applied
this model to Afghanistan, Calcutta, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya,
Tanzania, and Uganda.
