Why would I want to hire a custom software developer?

< BACK >

With thousands of excellent “packaged” software applications available today, we generally recommend you use available software packages whenever you can find something that will do what you want, because it will probably save you money.  But there are three main scenarios where we may provide the best solution:

  1. Complete System Development - You have a special application in mind where there just doesn’t seem to be anything available that will meet your needs.
  2. Enhancements to Software Packages - You found a good package (or packages), but it won’t do 100% of what you need it to do, or you need existing systems to talk to each other better.
  3. Support for Existing Software – You may be using a system where you no longer have a relationship with the original developer, and don’t have anyone on staff with the expertise to support that application.

Complete System Development:

There may be areas where your business is unique, or it’s important to your business to be able to do things just the way you want to do them.  In our twenty years of designing systems we have worked with all different types and sizes of businesses, and are familiar with all typical business applications.  We also use a wide variety of databases (SQL Server, Oracle, Access, FoxPro) and development tools (ASP.NET, VB.NET, Access, JSP, Visual FoxPro), and have experience developing web-based applications.  We often work on a fixed price basis, where we provide a free quotation to you for an initial project that provides the capabilities you need.

Enhancements to Software Packages:

Three major areas where enhancements are commonly desired are:

·         Enhanced reporting capabilities to provide you with the information you need to manage your business

·         Making information from these systems available to employees, customers or vendors over the web

·         Providing interfaces to make existing systems talk to each other, or to provide import / export of data to other systems or to programs like Excel and Access.

Over the years we have worked with most of the major vendors of accounting software and manufacturing systems, and we will be happy to review with you how we might improve your experience with whatever software you may be using.

Support for Existing Software:

There are literally thousands of applications still in use that were written in versions of Access, dBase, FoxPro or Visual Basic (all of which we are experienced in), and in many cases the original developers of these applications may not be in a position to offer continuing support.  Our years of experience and familiarity with business applications allows us to quickly get up to speed, help resolve problems and provide support and updates for these applications.
